Born For This | By Chris Guillebeau

How to find the work you were meant to do.

Here are some of the things I’ve learned from this book…

For a long time I thought I should find some passion. Now I realized that passion is not uncovered, it is created. But most people never put in the effort required to get good at something to the point where you grow to love it. I think the passion myth is the number one reason my friends are miserable at their jobs. - Melodie

There's more than one possible path to career success, but you want to find the best one - the thing you were born to do. You want to win the career lottery and discover a job that doesn't feel like work. Achieving this goal will require changes in mindset, strategy, and action.

Work isn't everything in life, but we spend a great deal of our lives at work. Some people, it seems, really do have it all.

Your Money and Your life (Have Both)

A dream job looks different for everyone. For some it's passive income. For some it's corporate. For some it's working 1:1 with clients. For some it's being able to work from anywhere. In the end, what freedom feels and looks like to each one of us.

The simple formula for the work you were born to do: JOY - MONEY - FLOW.

  • Something that makes us happy JOY .. It’s hard to be truly happy if you don’t fundamentally enjoy how you spend most of your time.

  • Something that's financially viable MONEY .. Money isn't everything, but it's hard to love your life if you're constantly stressed about paying the bills on time.

  • Something that maximizes our unique skills FLOW .. Flow work is different. You don't do it somewhat well or even pretty well; you do it really well. It comes naturally and easily to you. When you do this kind of work, other people are impressed or even amazed by how effortlessly you seem to achieve great results.

The Answer is in your inbox (Find Your Thing)

The people in your network may actually have a better sense of what your most marketable skills are than you do. The key is looking to the questions they ask you, the favors they request of you, and maybe even the books or articles they send you simple because they think you’d be interested. The more you are focus on solving other people’s problems, the more successful you will be.

Side Hustle (Make More Money)

The principle of side hustle is you don’t have to quit your job to start something on the side, and it doesn’t have to take over your life unless you want it to.

There are four broad types of hustles to choose from:

  1. Sell something

  2. Provide a consulting service

  3. Become a middleman

  4. Join the sharing economy as a provider

If you have the time definitely add this book to your reading list so many things you could use in your daily life as a business woman or a career woman.
